Daredevil: Closeup Interview
If you've already given up on your New Year's resolution Chris Flack will inspire you. He's a young Kiwi male who was determined to see out a resolution he made last January. Chris resolved to spend 2006 stepping out of his comfort zone. Each week, without fail, he set himself two challenges. Some were as simple as milking a cow or learning to reverse a trailer. But others a little scarier (and hairier), like having a chest wax. Jendy Harper joined the daredevil for his final challenge.

103 The bed of nails challenge
Week 52:1
This was definelty a mind one. The nails didn't hurt as nearly as much as they look like they should have. The only thing I was concerned about was the fact it was being beamed live to the nation.
A big thank you to Jack, Rebecca and the rest of the Breakfast crew.

094 Sock Wrestling
Week 51
One of the funniest games you can play with your clothing on.
Comfort: Not sure if I should include this as a challenge yet - but it is just way too funny to leave out.

093 Public Speaking
This was one of the hardest challenges. I had to go along to a Toastmasters group and do a table topic. Basically a table topic is an impromptu speech. They call out your name and a topic you then have to get up and talk about it for 90 seconds without any practice. My topic was unusual Christmas gifts.
I talked about an engraver my dad gave me for Xmas one year and went on to explain the real reason he gave it to me because he wanted it for himself. This caused a few laughs. I followed this with a story about unusual gifts I have given. Talking about my recent visit to Auckland, and a couple of novelty items I brought in an adult store. This had everyone in tears especially when I explain with actions how I thought I might have crossed the line with my subject matter. All in all I was pretty happy with my first impromptu speech.
Thanks to Junita and the Mt Pleasant Toastmasters Club for their great hospitality. I would recommend Toastmasters to anyone who wants to improve their self-confidence and public speaking skills - A great friendly encouraging environment.

092 Get a Piercing
Week 48:1
I found out five minutes before it happened that I was going to get my ear pierced. I thought Lynda at work was joking but man was I wrong. We turned up at Hanafins, Pharmacy and I paid the lady. A couple of minutes later my ear was pierced. The pain was nowhere near as bad as I thought it was going to be. Just a short sharp pain. I didn't even scream- Just a small flinch. (I was very scared but I didn't want Lynda to know that).
Thank you to Lynda for making sure I did it (because if I had the chance I would have tried to talk my way out of it) and the lady's at Hanafins Pharmacy for making it just about pain free.
Comfort: Pain!

085 Chest Wax
Week 44
This was insane and very painful. I have massive respect for anyone who waxes anything because it is so painful. I didn't think it would be that bad but saying that I have not laughed that hard in ages. It must of been hilarious to see three grown man lying in the middle of a lounge - holding hands about to get there chest waxed. One of the funniest nights in a long time and I had a very tender chest for the next couple of days.
Thanks to Rog and Rella for being part of the "smooth chest" club & to Julia, Laura and Clemmie for inflicting the pain and the 12 other people who just stared in horror.
Comfort: Pain and more pain

074 Learn to play a song on the Guitar
Week 36:2 September 6th - October 6th
The challenge is to try and learn one song on the guitar. I have had two lessons from Alec (Local Music Legend/ Tall Dwarfs / ex Toy Love) where he taught me the Batman Theme Tune along with lots of other very helpful hits.
Update 1: I have started Practicing and the tips of my fingers are starting to toughen up. At the moment i am going to try and learn "Brightside of the Road - By Van Morrison (Its on the lesson plan i found on the net). Update 2: It's not going as well as I would like. Have been really busy at work and with other projects but I hope to get back to it soon. Update 3: I managed to kind of play "killing me softly: at my flat Christmas party but everyone said that I definitely was "killing them softly" while I was playing. Update 4: I have added a video of my first performance of "killing me softly" and yes I was killing everyone softly.
Thanks to Dena and Gareth for the challenge, and Alec for his advice/time.
Comfort: I don't think i am musical (I hope its an hidden talent - Just not too hidden).

069 Weet-Bix Challenge
Week 34:1
The challenge sounds simple try and eat a dry Weet-Bix in under a minute. Anyone who has ever attempted this knows that it is very hard thing to do and how dry your mouth gets. I thought I had done it in just over 1 minute but after appealing to the 3rd Umpire (the digital camera) it was found I had just done it - 59.8 seconds.
Comfort Dry Weet-bix and a very dry mouth - yuck!

Week 22:1
As part of a positive thinking exercise my friends company (ROCK + ICE) get people to write a goal they want to break on a the bottom of a piece of wood - then they break it. We on the other hand just tried it for fun.
Well done - Roger Simpson (now you can Google yourself)
