087 Design a magazine in a week

This was going to be one of the ultimate design challenges - design an entire magazine in a week. With a lot of very good planning at the start and great art/editorial direction (returning to the old type specifications, a decision to strip back the design and give the artwork space to breath). It ended up being a lot easier/ less stressful than I expected. There was still a great lack of sleep on my behalf but it turned out really well and I am very proud. It also features my first cover shot (taken in the storeroom with a very hot lamp in one hand and my digital camera in the other).
Comfort: Sleep, time and procrastination
UPDATE: I have just been informed my "Giacometti Shadows" campaign won a sliver clio in the Design / Environmental Graphics Clio Awards held in Miami, USA. (The Clio Awards are the world’s most recognized international advertising awards competition. Founded in 1959 to celebrate creative excellence and innovation in advertising, the Clios inspire and pay tribute to one of the most interesting and influential art forms in modern culture. Known for its world-class juries made up of 113 experts from 62 countries, the Clio Awards focus on creative work in the fields of advertising and design. Last year the awards received over 20,000 entries. This year there are less than 900 finalists in total... only some of whom will receiver Bronze, Silver or Gold Clio’s. There are only 41 design finalists.)

037 Artist Photoshoot

Week 16:2
I volunteered to take a photo for the Christchurch Art Gallery Bulletin magazine because the current photographer was going to be away. Having never done a ‘professional’ photo before it was a daunting task ahead. To add to this I had heard the artist was a little reticent and I knew the high standards I had to aim for. Well it had everything. From an Artist who didn't really want his photo taken to my photos getting lost then found, then lost again only to turn up a day later (trust me I thought it would never happen). Check out the results above.
Comfort: You only have on chance to get a great shot.
